Artist's Description

A woman slave with outstretched arms stands in the foreground, her head wrapped in a white cloth, and with an expression of anguish, she seems to be pleading or appealing to someone or something unseen. Two children are next to her, with expressions of distress and shock, as they look upward. In the background, a faint scene depicts other individuals in a field under a dramatic sky pierced by rays of light.
